Word 005
One morning, I was walking slowly along the path near Kasuga Grand Shrine in Nara, watching the deer graze in quiet contentment.
They weren't trying to prove themselves to anyone. They weren't putting other deer down to feel better about themselves. They simply were.
I found myself thinking: why do we humans so often try to lift ourselves up by pushing others down?
Perhaps it is because we haven't yet found who we truly are.
"Life is a journey to find yourself.
If you can find yourself — and fulfil yourself — you can be kind to others.
That way, you will never fall into the trap that ensnares us all:
'affirming yourself by negating others.'
The key is not Ego, but Self."
